But somehow everyone missed the main point.
On December 25th , Jimmy Butler requested a trade while in midst of being away from the team due to a stomach bug
And on December 26th, Pat Riley said the Heat would not trade Butler.
This was after Butler’s agent said that Shams was fabricating information that the Heat were shopping Butler around.
But the Heat and Jimmy Butler’s partnership has been anything but smooth. Butler carried the Heat to the Finals without another teammate making an All-NBA team, but not before several injuries that limited Butler’s time on the court, a very public fight with the coach, celebrations with fines, first round exits.
But the question isn’t why he wants to leave now, it’s why did he even stay in the first place. And funny enough the answer to both these questions is the same and no it’s not just a contract issue.
